Letter to Parents

Dear Parents/Carers

We have already been back three weeks and as ever, time has flown.

I would like to thank you all for sending your children back ready to learn and with the correct uniform, it is very much appreciated.  I am pleased to report that the children have made an excellent start to the year and are already working hard in all areas of the curriculum.  The new school day and new initiatives to improve the children’s literacy (‘Drop Everything and Read’) seem to be going well at KS3 and will most definitely have an impact as time passes.  The intervention at the start of the day for Year 11 in English and Year 10 in maths is providing the much needed extra time and support that they need in these very important subjects.  I ask you to ensure that your child arrives on time for school to ensure that they do not miss out on these vital opportunities to enhance their learning.

I am very glad to report that the 3G Astro Turf pitch will be handed over to school on 2 October, 2017.  After a year in its construction, the PE department is really looking forward to using this state of the art facility in PE lessons.  There will be an official opening of the 3G pitch in the last week of this half term – more details to follow.  The development plans for the new music suite and LRC have now gone out to tender so we are very hopeful that things will begin to happen in both these areas in the not too distant future.

The new Year 7 have made a fantastic start to their school career here at Fisher More.  Staff have commented positively on their politeness, manners and most importantly their attitudes to learning.  They have all just enjoyed two days at Simonstone Outdoor Pursuits Centre and Sacred Heart Church and Hall, getting to know each other through team building games and activities as well as getting an appreciation of our unique mission and ethos.  We thank all the staff involved in the organising and running of these fantastic enrichment activities for the children and Wil’s Wishes for providing the funding.  Details and photographs of these days and the recent rewards trip to Old Trafford, kindly donated by Matt Moulding and The Hut Group, are on the school website and Facebook page.

We are looking to recruit a Parent Governor to our school Governing Body.  Based on our skills audit, we are particularly looking for any parents/carers who can offer accountancy/finance skills, business skills or skills in the medical or health care fields.  We also have vacancies for Foundation Governors who need to be practising Catholics to apply, so if any parents/carers are interested in applying to be Foundation Governors, please let us know.  We are hoping to hold Parental Governor elections before half term.  If you require any further information about being a school governor, please email me directly on hayes.c@fishermore.lancs.sch.uk  Being a school governor will provide you with a real opportunity to help shape the whole of the Fisher More community now and in the future.

Finally, it is with deep sadness and regret that I write to announce the passing away of a very dear colleague and friend, Mrs Louise Whalley.  Louise worked at Fisher More for over 19 years and was at the heart of its community, contributing in so many different and significant ways.  We will keep Louise and her family in our thoughts and prayers in the days to come.

Yours faithfully

Ms C Hayes
