'Make It' Challenge Winners
On Thursday 10 October, a team of 8 intelligent engineers brought tremendous success to the school after winning the Regional Finals of the Make-It Contest, held at Old Trafford in Manchester. Ruth Wilding, Ruby Whittaker, Tom Burns, Megan Whitely, Genevieve Bailey, Quinn Emmett, Josh Swarbrick and Dominik Szerlag worked superbly well as a team, beating schools from all over the north of England (and even a school in Wales)! Their tenacity and teamwork won the school two grand and glorious trophies, which will be proudly displayed amongst the vast sea of trophies held in the trophy cabinet.
At Old Trafford, the team were tasked to design an airline, along with a shuttle to build the airline. They had to pitch their idea to a team of ‘dragons’ in a 3 minute pitch, highlighting the flight path they would take, their target audience (i.e. Families), advertising/marketing and the shuttle. Over the 3 hours they had to design the airline, the team worked phenomenally well; building models of shuttles, designing web pages and discussing costs. After hours of work (and plates of chips), the team presented their ideas with resounding success. The team won the competition!
