Amended School Day
27 May 2020
Dear Parents/Carers
First of all, I hope that you are all managing to stay safe and well during these unusual and testing times.
After the recent pronouncements concerning the road map out of strict lockdown, the future of education in secondary schools remains extremely uncertain. However, and particularly since our visit by Ofsted, we have been planning for the future with particular emphasis around the implementation of our revised, broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.
As part of this process we have rationalised the organisation of learning time during the school day. As a consequence, we have changed the timing of the school day to maximise the use of that learning time. As of the beginning of the new school year in September 2020, the school day will begin with pupils in school at 8.40am and in their form groups by 8.45am. Pupils will have their normal 6 x 50 minute lessons during the day with a 20 minute morning break and a 40 minute lunch break. Pupils will leave school at the earlier time of 3pm. There are many advantages to this earlier finish time, including going home in daylight for the vast majority of the year and the ability to run after school activities and sports fixtures more successfully.
In summary:
School starts: 8.40am
Registration/assembly: 8.45am
Morning break: 10.40am – 11am
Lunch break: 2 sittings, each for 40 minutes
School ends: 3pm
Of course, we hope, as I am sure you do, that school will be back to normal, or as near normal as it can be, as quickly as possible. In the meantime, if you do have any queries regarding these proposed changes, please do not hesitate to contact me: trickett.p@fishermore.lancs.sch.uk
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Yours faithfully
Mr P Trickett
