Q&A from Parents' Meeting

Thank you to all the parents who joined the ‘Zoom’ meeting last night.  There were some useful questions raised and views shared.  Please find below our most recent update and a summary of the answers to the questions asked:

  • All pupils in all year groups back in September

(NB: As of September this is will be compulsory for your child to return to school, none attendance without a valid reason could result in fines from LCC.)

Wednesday 3 September 2020 - Years 7 and 11.

Monday 7 September 2020 - All years groups.

  • PPE

As per current government guidance – pupils should NOT wear masks in schools.

  • Year groups need to be kept separate

School has been ‘zoned’ to avoid mixing of year groups. Toilet facilities and recreation areas will also be zoned for social distancing purposes.

  • Staggered start and finish times

This is to ensure social distancing and separation of year groups. There will be a ‘waiting area’ located on the staff car park (near the old basketball courts) for those children who need to be dropped off earlier/later than their starting time. This will hopefully help parents who have more than one school drop off.

  • PE Kits

Not required initially in September. PE activities will require the children to wear trainers only.

  • Drop off and collection of children

We kindly ask no cars/parents/carers to come over the bridge. Please drop off and collect children from Asda where possible. This is to ensure social distancing of adults and keeping everyone safe.

  • Visiting school

If parents/carers need to come into school, please ring beforehand to avoid large numbers in reception area.

  • Bike sheds

We are currently updating and repairing our bike sheds to accommodate the increased numbers of children and staff cycling to school. Please ensure, if your child is cycling, they have all the correct safety equipment.

  • Year vaccinations

The community nurses will continue with the vaccine programme and further information will be sent out by them.

  • Pastoral Care

A full-time counsellor will be in school from September to support pupils and staff.

  • Bus times

No changes to morning pick up times

Afternoon:         3.05pm Briercliffe

                                3.25pm Barnoldswick

                                 3.30pm Padiham, Fence

  • Pupil Equipment

Pupils will need:

A backpack (to go on the back of chairs in classrooms).

A reading book (school cannot provide/use text books or reading books due to potential contamination.Pupils will be given a stationery pack of their own to use and children can bring additional items if they wish, but these cannot be shared.

Packed lunch (if not purchasing from canteen) water and snacks. ‘Grab bags’ will be the only food available to purchase on site from September (this will be reviewed in due course). No break time provisions available

  • Further information

Coming out this week will be a letter outlining your child’s base room for the majority of their timetable, their teaching group and a copy of the timetable they will follow in September.

  • Teaching

All children will continue to study all subjects/options taught by specialised staff, for the same time allocations as previously. There is no narrowing of the curriculum for any pupil.

If your child’s start and finish time is before the start/end of the ‘normal’ school day, departments will be posting additional work for pupils to complete at home. We will maximise and focus our efforts during their time with us in school.

This will be an ever-changing situation in September. We will do our best to keep you fully updated on any future changes to the way the school is operating through the website, social media and ‘Zoom’ meetings for parents. Once again, I thank you for your continued support in helping us make this all happen. We really do look forward to welcoming all children back in September.

Have a lovely summer and stay safe.
