The popular reading programme Accelerated Reader has recently been re-launched in school for KS3.
At Fisher More, Accelerated Reader is an important facet of the Drop Everything And Read programme (DEAR). Once a fortnight, pupils will have a library lesson (during an English lesson) in which they can return their books, take quizzes to check recall and comprehension, and earn points in the process, contributing towards their form’s monthly total. Rewards will be awarded to the winning form, with individual prizes given to our top readers.
Using the data collected from your child’s quiz scores, it is easy to monitor their progress, tracking any changes to their reading age. In addition, it also enables us to implement appropriate intervention for those pupils who are reluctant readers or find reading difficult. Ultimately, one important aim of the scheme is to rekindle our pupils’ enjoyment of reading, having a positive impact on their literacy skills in the process.
