Admissions Questions and Answers
How do I make an application?
This should be done in two parts. Firstly, complete an on-line application to Lancashire County Council as instructed in the green information booklet. Secondly, complete the supplementary application form (available from the school and website).
How can I make an online application if I don’t have a computer?
Your child’s primary school should be able to help you with an online application but if this is not possible, please contact us and we will make an arrangement for you to do this at Fisher More.
Where do I send the supplementary application form?
This should be sent to us at Fisher More and not to the office. The form should be received by us by the end of November at the latest.
Why do I need to apply for a place if I’ve got an older child already attending the school?
Please do not assume there is no need to make an application because you’ve already got an older child at Fisher More. In the past families have had to appeal because they had made this assumption and hadn’t applied for a place.
Any advice on completing the LCC application?
If you want Fisher More the most you must put the school as your first preference. It is in your interest to choose 3 schools as if your first preference is unsuccessful at least you will then be considered for two other schools. If you only put one school then it is likely you will be offered a school which would not have been your choice.
What happens after the closing date?
At the end of November Lancashire County Council will send us a list of all the children’s names whose families have expressed a preference for Fisher More (we do not know at this stage if we are 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice). We then look at each child individually and rank them in order according to our criteria. Each category is then ranked on the distance of home to school – this distance is calculated and supplied to us by Lancashire County Council.
The information which you supply to us on the supplementary form is used to help us with this ranking process. We may need to contact you for further clarification if any aspects are unclear so it is helpful if you can give us as much information as possible.
We send our ranked list back to LCC before Christmas. LCC then begin the huge process of sifting through the applications and matching preferences against school’s lists.
When do I find out if my child has been given a place?
Parents are notified by Lancashire County Council on March 1st. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised on how to make an appeal – see our guide on Appeals Questions and Answers
