Letter to Parents - March 2020
23 March 2020
I have received several emails from parents over the weekend expressing various views regarding the early release of Year 11 pupils on Friday 20 March 2020.
As you are acutely aware, these are unprecedented times resulting in a national emergency. Such is our predicament as a country that the government took the extraordinary decision to close schools and cancel GCSE examinations for this group of Year 11 pupils. We now have the information from the government on how the pupils will be assessed this year and how the grades will be calculated ahead of reporting in July. If you wish to know more details, please visit the following website: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/further-details-on-exams-and-grades-announced
On Friday, as a result of the government’s decision, Year 11 assumed that it was their last day with us. We do not know for sure that this is the case and hope to see the students again, as a year group, before they head off into further education, employment or training. However, in order to recognise what might be ahead, Mr Walmsley and Mr Flynn had planned a surprise assembly for Year 11 during the last lesson of the day in order the celebrate their journey through Fisher More.
Unfortunately, during the morning, a significant number of Year 11 pupils took it upon themselves to behave inappropriately. The decision was made to ask Year 11 to leave early and as a result all the year group left by the end of lunchtime.
The decision was taken in order to prevent further disruption to other year groups at a time when we, as a school, were trying to preserve normality by continuing to teach and prepare pupils for home study.
As I have said earlier, we are planning to invite all pupils in Year 11 back, hopefully sooner rather than later, to enjoy a final celebration of their time with us that they can look back on with real fondness and affection in the years to come. Some Year 11 students have already started to plan the final liturgy so hopefully this can be completed in the months ahead and shared with the whole year group.
I look forward to welcoming our young people back in the coming months to share in their successes and celebrate their time as a part of the Fisher More family.
