Spiritual Life of the School
Fisher More High School is committed to upholding our mission statement, which proclaims that we provide a secure, supportive and stimulating Christian environment within the context of the Catholic tradition, in which justice, tolerance, forgiveness and generosity are practised with courtesy, consideration and common sense . We make every effort to see that our faith is integrated into every area of school life. In addition to religion classes, we bring the Light of Christ into our school through daily prayer, weekly Masses, service projects, retreats, Reconciliation, Adoration, Stations of the Cross, and additional Liturgical celebrations.
Meet our Chaplain
My name is Mrs Sweeney and I am part-time RE teacher and part-time chaplain.
In my role as chaplain I plan whole school Masses with the local priests, staff and pupils. Throughout the year I lead each form in quiet reflection in the Chapel during form time as well as assisting them in preparing for form Masses and assemblies alongside their form teachers. This gives all pupils the opportunity to take part in the spiritual life of the school. I open chapel before school for staff reflection and during lunchtime for pupils
I am also responsible for coordinating the GIFT team. We now have GIFT team members in each year group who are happy to share their faith with others in our community by helping out during Mass and other religious services as well as helping in charity events. I am supported in this task by a dedicated group of teachers.
I help organise the year 7 days at Sacred Heart where year 7 pupils have the opportunity to spend time together at one of our local Parishes. Here they learn to work together on different tasks ending the day with a liturgy that reflects the achievements of the day.
I am also helping to establish a mission week within the RE department which will include guest speakers and activities for all year groups. Helping to enrich the education of all our pupils.
