Summer School 2021 Report
Year 6 and 7 Summer School 2021
Year 7 – Monday 16 August to Friday 20 August 2021
Year 6 – Monday 23 August to Friday 27 August 2021
Year 7 week – 160 students invited. 88 students accessed at least one day
Year 6 week – 166 students invited. 142 students accessed at least one day
The Summer School was invaluable for our Year 6 students transferring from primary school. The week offered them an opportunity to establish new friendships, meet staff, familiarise themselves with their new school setting, learn school routines, and experience a range of lessons and enrichment activities ahead of their start in September 2021.
Due to Covid restrictions, Year 7 students had been taught in class bubbles and restricted to one area of the school prior to the summer break. The Summer School allowed Year 7 students to establish new friendships outside of their bubbles and to be taught in specialist classrooms they hadn’t been able to visit throughout the year. Year 7 students also experienced a range of different subjects and enrichment activities.
All students in Year 6 and 7 were offered a free lunch. All students were tested for Covid at the start of each week.
All students across both weeks experienced the following:
- Half a day of sports
- Half a day of numeracy
- Full day of drama devising a ‘Play in a Day’
- In school Archery session
- Full day of Forensic Science
- Day trip to ‘Outdoor Elements’ outward activity centre
- Full day of literacy with a visiting author
- Celebration afternoon led by the school band
