Let all our bright
colours shine.

What's Going On?

We like to keep busy in the LRC enriching our reading experiences and taking part in local events. Sadly things are temporarily on hold whilst our extension takes place, but here are a few of our more recent activities:

The author G.P. Taylor joined us in school to speak to pupils, and what a captivating speaker he was. He had them crying with laughter and screaming in fear during his talk. The pupils were given the opportunity to ask questions too and took full advantage of this. Rev. Taylor is one of many authors we have been lucky enough to host at school, and hopefully one of many more.

A group of pupils attended the Broughton Hall Children’s Literature Festival. We were very busy while there and got to see six different authors throughout the day, including poets, novelists and Manga artists. The pupils got involved in the composition and performance of a rap, tried their hand at Manga art, took part in a football shoot out and even met Lord Voldemort.

Two teams from Year 7 and 8 take part in the Kids Lit Quiz at Pendle Vale High School. This is a very fast paced and exciting worldwide competition. Our pupils always do us proud and do very well against some very stiff competition from schools all over the north west.

We have been a judging school for the Royal Society’s Young People’s Book Prize  and the Lancashire Book of the Year. These fantastic awards give pupils the opportunity to express their opinion on the latest scientific publications for young people and young adult fiction. It is a great honour to be selected to be part of the judging process and hopefully one we will continue to do in the future.

Keep checking back for details of our upcoming events.
