Welcome to Year 10! I hope that you enjoyed the holidays and are now ready to focus and make the most of this year.
This is the start of an important time for you at Fisher More, as you begin your GCSE courses. Everyone will be studying the core subjects of Maths, English, Science and RE as well as up to 3 extra options.
It is essential that you set yourself high standards right from the beginning of the year to ensure the best chance of success. Consider areas that you need to improve upon, what can you do to ensure you are reaching your potential?
Being in the right frame of mind and organised each day will give you a head start. Check you have the correct books and equipment packed for each day, give yourself time to do your homework properly, focus on maintaining an excellent attendance and punctuality record. Make sure you are using your diary correctly to record important information and keep checking ‘Class Charts'. If you can manage these steps right from the beginning of the year it will give you a big advantage.
This is the year we also begin to focus on what you may do when you leave our school. The Employability Award will be launched at the beginning of the year, which is recognised by local businesses. Pupils across all Pendle schools work towards achieving the Gold standard in this certificate. The award looks at key areas such as: attendance, punctuality, attitude to learning, your involvement in the life of the school and in the community and on interview techniques. Successful pupils are invited to a presentation evening with entertainment, attended by Headteachers and local dignitaries. In the summer term you will be heading off to work somewhere to gain some invaluable experience. This is a great privilege offered by our school. It is important that you show some initiative this year to organise your own work experience, try to find somewhere that will really help you to develop your skills.
Your form tutors and I will be working together to push you to achieve your very best. Work hard, get involved in activities and let’s make this another great year at Fisher More.
