Year 6 Transition
Fisher More is proud of its primary/secondary transition programme. The school continues to be massively oversubscribed, we gain our intake from five main feeder Catholic schools plus approximately 30 additional primary schools within the local area. The transition programme is led by Mr Crabtree, Director of Progress for Years 6 and 7.
We believe that a strong transition programme based on excellent communication with all relevant stakeholders, (primary schools, parents, pupils) is essential if pupils are to enter our school fully prepared, happy and ready for all their bright colours to shine. The transition programme is led by Mr Crabtree, Director of Progress for Years 6 and 7. Take a look below at what is on offer this year as part of our virtual open events for Year 6.
Should you require further information regarding transition please contact Mrs J Beechey, Pastoral Manager on 01282 865299
As the end of the Summer Term approaches, and we look forward to the new academic year, I am writing with an overview of key information for Year 7 students for the start of term.
Students should arrive on Thursday 2nd September 2021 at 8.45am, in full school uniform, details of which can be found on our website. Students will be greeted by staff on arrival, given their form group and directed to the Drama Studio where they will meet their tutors. Whilst they are settling in students will be collected and dropped off from a base room for lessons, so they are not expected to find their own way around school.
During the first two weeks students will take CAT tests, which alongside data from Year 6 teacher assessments, enable us to put students into sets for lessons. CAT tests are designed to be taken without revision and are nothing for students to worry about. Ability sets promote effective learning for all and allow staff to implement both support and challenge for students, as necessary.
Unfortunately, recent restrictions have hindered our normal transition procedures, but we are keen that students do not miss out. There is a wealth of resources on our website under ‘Parents’ and ‘Year 6 Transition’. Please spend some time with your child looking through the information. Resources include; a virtual tour of school, a PowerPoint on preparing to come to Fisher More, virtual lessons, a pupil information booklet and copies of correspondence that have been sent home. In addition to this the transition team have been contacting primary schools to have virtual meetings with staff and students.
There has been a huge uptake for Summer School from 23rd to 27th August 2021. The information and timetable have now been sent out to all those enrolled. All students attending are entitled to a free packed lunch each day, if your child would like a packed lunch please email Mr Atkin firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 16th July 2021. Similarly, if you have an outstanding medical form please return this to Mr Atkin by the same date. Public Health England and the Director of Public Health for Lancashire have asked all secondary schools in Burnley and Pendle to continue weekly asymptomatic COVID testing in schools, this includes Summer Schools. We will test all pupils in school on the first day of Summer School, to do this we need parental consent. Please kindly fill out the electronic form (even if you do NOT consent) before your child arrives. The link to this will be sent on Monday 19th July 2021 via text message/email.
Whilst the transition from primary to secondary school is an exciting time, we understand that it can also be an anxious time, particularly with additional challenges the COVID-19 Pandemic has raised. To address this, in PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) lessons, students will be participating in the ‘Bounce Forward’ programme delivered by Lancashire Mind. This promotes resilience and wellbeing and helps students to understand and manage their emotions. In addition to this, we will of course, be as supportive as possible of both students and parents/carers. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns. There will be an opportunity in November for you to find out how your child is settling in at Fisher More at our Pastoral Parents’ Evening, details of which will be provided in due course.
We look forward to meeting you all in September, well rested and ready to work hard.

Transition and Year 7 Leader
